GTSM visited Malaysia to promote listing of overseas enterprises in Taiwan
March 3, 2009
In the continuing efforts to promote listing of overseas enterprises in Taiwan, Gretai Securities Market (GTSM), following its “New Investment and Listing Opportunities in Taiwan” roadshow and visit in Kuala Lumpur in August last year, participated in the “Applying for Stock Listing or Issuance of Taiwan Depositary Receipts in Taiwan” seminar sponsored by KPMG in Penang, Malaysia on March 3. The seminar was warmly received and supported by the President of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Penang Mr. Yin Chih-Chu, the President of Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Kedah Mr. Hong Peng-Hsiang, and Taiwanese companies doing business in those two Malaysian states and was a great success.
To help enterprises in Malaysia understand better how to apply for stock listing in Taiwan, this seminar focused on issues such as regulations governing the application for primary listing and registration of emerging stock on Taiwan’s over-the-counter market (GTSM), related systems and important notes. During the trip, the GTSM also signed a MOU with Bursa Malaysia (MYX) on March 2 and offered MYX-listed companies the opportunity to issue Taiwan Depositary Receipt (TDR) on GTSM. The event attracted more than one hundred Malaysian businessmen.
In his address to the seminar, the GTSM Chairman related that there are “three purposes” and “three things to do” in this visit to Malaysia, which are: “to seek economic development, to find great deals for investment, and to create new opportunities for Taiwanese enterprises”, and “to develop new concepts, to establish good systems, and to develop new channels”, and that Taiwan’s capital market would give overseas Taiwanese enterprises the best support and GTSM would provide friendly and refined services as backup for Taiwanese enterprises in their overseas undertakings.
In the seminar, the GTSM introduced application for stock listing and issuance of Taiwan Depositary Receipt in Taiwan, followed up by discussion of how their assistance has led to listing success by accounting firms and law firms. Participants of the seminar gained a general understanding of the current status, development and functions of Taiwan’s capital market and showed great interest in listing on Taiwan’s OTC market. This seminar sufficiently encourages Malaysian firms to apply for listing or issuance of TDR in Taiwan. If it happens, it will add new forces to the over-the-counter market and infuse vigor into the operations of overseas Taiwanese enterprises to unfold a future of “Taiwan-China operations, shine in Asia-Pacific and global deployment.”
Aside from the seminar in Penang, GTSM and KPMG also visited some Malaysian companies to engage in face-to-face communication. A few companies have indicated that they believe Taiwan’s capital market could help their futures business development and they would soon start planning the application for registration of emerging stock or issuance of TDR in Taiwan.
